THESE PENS HAVE SOLD!

Hello there! Welcome to Inkquiring Minds. I’m Doug, and I’m back with another Pen Resurrection Sunday video. Today, I have two dead fountain pens ready for a revival.

These are both Parker Vacumatics, and they’re from the fourth quarter of 1945. One is in Golden Pearl, and the other is in Silver Pearl. I couldn’t decide which one to work on first, so I’m doing them together. If I encounter any difficulties with one or both, this video will end up as a two-part series. However, if everything goes smoothly, we’ll have two brand-new-looking fountain pens at the end.

These two pens are the same model, but the only difference is the finish. One is celluloid in Golden Pearl, and the other is celluloid in Silver Pearl. The hardware is also different, with the Golden Pearl pen having gold-filled trim and the Silver Pearl pen having nickel silver-filled trim. Both pens have blue diamond clips.

For those who want to see the results quickly, we’ll show a comparison of the Golden Pearl pen before and after restoration.

THOUGHTS

So, what are my thoughts on these resurrections? Well, this might be the longest pen resurrection Sunday video ever, so I’ll keep my thoughts brief. I’ve included my Azure Blue Pearl 1945 Parker Vacumatics here because they make a lovely group. All three pens are from 1945, third-generation Vacumatics, and three of the most beautiful colours from that generation. The other in this series would be the emerald pearl. All three are major models with chevron cap bands, blue diamond clips, and gorgeous stacked celluloid that’s bright all around.

This Azure Blue is the one Vacumatic I keep. I custom-ground the section and made a stub nib, and it writes beautifully. I even installed an updated, modern brass replacement Vacumatic pump, so it’s always full of ink.

I was pleased that both pens didn’t cause any problems that would have made this video two parts. I thought I’d continue with the other pen if I couldn’t fix something, but they both turned out beautifully. They both write nicely.

I had one issue with a pump pellet retainer breaking, but I replaced it. The other pen didn’t have a breather tube, but I had a spare, so it works perfectly.

I get many comments asking me to review other fountain pens besides Parker Vacumatics, and I do. I’ve reviewed Sheaffers, Parker 51s, Esterbrooks, and some vintage Watermans. I’m also getting a Conway Stewart soon, so you’ll see those.

But these are the pens I love. There are a few reasons. I love the pen model; it’s the right size, comfortable, writes beautifully, and looks gorgeous. This chatoyant stacked celluloid has never been rivalled in my opinion.

These pens hold a lot of ink, and more importantly, I’ve become quite skilled at restoring them. So, I decided to tackle two at once.

The gold trim on these 1940s Parkers is filled with gold-filled material, making it deep and durable. It may appear black when unrestored, but it transforms into a stunning piece of brand-new gold. The nibs also clean up beautifully.

This celluloid is incredibly thick, unlike some models from this era, like the Eversharp Skyline, which used brittle, thin celluloid that was fragile and prone to breaking.

However, this thick, resilient celluloid can be sanded and polished to a brilliant shine. These are truly beautiful fountain pens.

I’m selling them, but if you’re watching this video first, you’re an Inkquiring Minds member at either the basic or patron level. Basic members get 10% off these pens, while patron members get 20%.
