Hello there. Welcome to Ink Inkquiring Minds. My name is Doug, and I'm back with another Ren Resurrection Sunday video. Today's pen cadaver on the slab, waiting for resurrection to the land of the living and writing is this beautiful 1941 Parker Vacumatic emerald pearl, third generation.

THIS PEN HAS SOLD!

THOUGHTS

So, what are my thoughts on this resurrection? Well, I wish they all went this well. I was hoping for a pleasant experience, and this pen was in pretty good shape when I got it. There were no deep gouges or bite marks, and it didn’t cause me any real problems except for the end finial not wanting to come off. I polished it up anyway.

I was also hoping for the best for this pen because it’s unusual. I’ve never seen a third-generation Parker Vacumatic with the celluloid pump and double jewel before. Most third-generation models have a rounded blind cap, and they ditched the double jewel configuration after the introduction of the third generation. So, I’m sure there are others out there, but I’ve just never seen one.

Here’s a chart of the three generations of Parker Vacumatics that I got from David Isaacson’s website. You can see in the bottom row that it says “third 1942 plus” and that the jewels were single with the plastic filling unit. This and other things make me feel that this pen is unique.

The nib was in good shape; it just needed polishing, and it writes beautifully and wet. There were no gouges out of that section, and the Vacumatic pump came out relatively easily. All it had was a tangled diaphragm inside from the previous restoration.

The barrel is now beautifully translucent, and the pen takes a marvellous 1.4 millilitres of ink. The pearlescent shine of this pen is quite remarkable. When I tested the nib, it wrote very well. It was nice and wet and had a little bit of bounce to it. It was a little bit feedbacky, not scratchy.

I did some figure-eights on 8,000 grit and then 12,000 grit, and now it’s writing like a dream. So, there you go. Another successful pen back from the dead.

If you’re interested in purchasing this pen, I’m selling it for $180 US plus shipping.
