THIS PEN HAS BEEN SOLD!
Hello there. Welcome to Inkquiring Minds. My name is Doug, and I'm back with another pen resurrection Sunday video.
This is a third-generation Parker Vacumatic in golden pearl celluloid. It is a junior model with the two cap rings and no blue diamond on the clip, and it has a rather nice gold nib. So, let's take a look at this Vacumatic and see what it needs to come back to the land of the living and the writing.
So, what are my thoughts on this pen resurrection? I’m very pleased with it. I love these beautiful third-generation stacked celluloid Parker Vacumatic fountain pens in all their colours: emerald, silver, gold, azure blue, and maroon wine. They’re all gorgeous. This is a junior model, and the only difference between the junior and the major is the cap bands. The major has a wider cap band, while the junior has two cat bands and a clip. The junior doesn’t have the blue diamond on the clip, but otherwise, the pens are identical. This one cleaned up beautifully. I didn’t even have to replace the Vacumatic diaphragm because it already has one installed. This suggests the pen was restored and then neglected, as the latex diaphragm is relatively new. I believe the last restorer added some shellac to that section and polished the pen so much that it lost its date code. I still have the rest of the imprint, but the date code seems to be gone. I examined it with a microscope and saw a faint outline of an eight. It could have been a two, but I think it was an eight. This matches the 1948 on the nib. Now, the pen is in perfect working order and in a lovely, polished condition. It writes like a champ. I used some micro mesh to tame some of the feedback on the nib. The nib material sometimes corrodes a bit with age, oxidation, and other factors. The tipping material isn’t gold; it’s a hard alloy of aridium and some aridium compound. So, polishing it polished out much of the feedback. As an extra-fine nib, it still has some feedback, but you can write with absolutely no pressure whatsoever, and it just glides. This will be a beautiful fountain pen for someone to own. I’m selling it for $200 US plus shipping. If you’re interested in purchasing this beautiful fountain pen, send me an email at inquiringminds@gmail.com with your name and address. I’ll provide you with a shipping quote and instructions on how to pay via PayPal.
