1942 Parker Vacumatic Emeral Pearl *SOLD* ($180 US)
THIS PEN HAS BEEN SOLD!
Welcome back to Inkquiring Minds! My name is Doug, and today we have another "Pen Resurrection Sunday" video. On the slab, ready for restoration, is a gorgeous Emerald Pearl 1942 Parker Vacumatic (3rd Generation Junior). My friend Peter from the Calgary Pen Club generously donated this pen to the channel—thank you, Peter! While my personal favourite is Azure Blue Pearl, Emerald Pearl is a very close second and easily one of the most sought-after finishes in the Vacumatic lineup. Best of all, this example is in great shape to start with.
So what are my thoughts about this pen resurrection? Well, first off, I have to thank Peter, my friend from the Calgary Pen Club, for bringing this pen back from Brazil with him and gifting it to my channel. It was in excellent shape to start with, just without a working diaphragm. But once I got into it, I discovered that the section was sealed shut with some kind of silly putty. I'm not sure what it was. It's a white compound that was very difficult to get out, but fortunately, it didn't seize the section shut. I discovered some of that same material on the vac pump, but unlike previous Vacumatic pen resurrections that I've done lately, this vac pump pulled out nicely.
However, that isn't the original pump because I think this was a homemade pump. This is the one that came from the pen. And here's a replacement plet retainer. And you can see the difference. Let's extend this one if I can hold it so you can see the difference here. This one looks almost homemade that someone took a piece of ebonite and shaped a cylinder out of it, drilled a hole and stuck it on the end of this pump because they couldn't get a hold of these. That might have been what happened here because there's all kinds of residue of shellac around there. So someone shellacked that diaphragm pellet into there to hold it on. So that's just not going to work. So eventually, when I have some time, I'm going to break that off of that rod and put this one on as a replacement.
But in the meantime, this is a vintage, probably around the same vintage as this pen vac pump that's working perfectly inside this pen. And it's polished up, writing beautifully and ready to come back to the land of the living and writing again. And if you'd like to write with this pen, I'm selling it for $180 US plus shipping. If you're interested in purchasing it, drop me an email at inquiringminds@gmail.com with your name and your address, and I'll get you a shipping quote and instructions on how to pay using PayPal.
